As always, slight variances are to be expected, but in general, you should be able to assume that nothing will start long before it's scheduled. The usual things are all as you remember them, including a schedule for you to study, that conveniently enough adjusts to your time zone. If everybody can just speedrun getting vaccinated, maybe it'll be back to a physical event next year.īut for now, you will just have to enjoy this online edition of Summer Games Done Quick 2021! Happening July 4th-11th, and benefiting Doctors Without Borders, and all that stuff you know and love. (Placeholder downscaled Twitter-sized banner until I can find the regular-sized ones)Ī year since the first online GDQ, and as it's still not deemed safe to have an event in-person, we're doing it online for the third time. Bonus points for having, from what I've seen, the highest view count, with over 152,000 viewers.Summer Games Done Quickl 2021 Online is over! A big thank you to everyone who helped out in raising just shy of 2.9 million dollars for Doctors Without Borders! Puncayshun, Cheese, and Simply all showed off how far the 120 star meta has come since the days where Siglemic conquered the scene. GamerDomey, while stuck with the dreaded submarine star, played wonderfully and caught up a decent amount of spite of the mid-run handicap.ġ20 stars - Three of the most consistent runners in the history of the category all together for one for huge race. History was made here as Chrism finished the first 0-star run to ever be successfully finished in a marathon. Doing his outrageous play justice is the couch power combo of Andy's technical know-how and Patty's dry humor.Īny% - Chrism actually pulled it off. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past - Xelna's play is unparalleled in 100% this run literally had a better time than all non-Xelna runs ever. It's systematic chaos with an acceptable dose of unplanned chaos. One moment the runners successfully traverse Route 01 numerous times the next one of them outright asks the couch what his stats are. Pokemon Blue (blindfolded) - The hilarity of the things that go wrong in this race are equal to the impressiveness of the things that go right. While not as a consistently humorous as some of the other runs on this list, it has possibly the funniest single moment of them all, which I won't spoil. Commentators often trade off between the runners and the couch, and not a single one underperformed. Luigi's Mansion - Generally a very well flowing run. Oh, and his skill in one of the hardest Mario games is nothing to sneeze at either. Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels - Big John's stage presence is just amazing his oddball tangents and high-on-life attitude are just a joy to behold. By far one of the funniest runs of the marathon. Instead of opting for "professional" presentation, they had largely casual banter ongoing throughout a good portion of the run, a lot of which was oddly hilarious thanks to their great senses of humor. Maldita Castilla - I expected to enjoy the hell out of this run, as I've seen both Patty and Weables run it in their individual streams what I was foolish enough to not expect, however, was the commentary style they chose. Ghouls N Ghosts - The main thing that made this so run fun to watch was how balanced its couch/runner dynamic was between Aquas's play (which was excellent, I should add), Edobean and PJ's explanations, and "Hype Man" keeping everything fresh, it provided just enough of pretty much everything to keep everything flowing. His play is great too, in addition to the fact that Yoshi's Island is just entertaining to watch at a high level. Trihex was very well-spoken throughout his run, providing a really solid mixture of informative and laid-back. Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - Great opening to the marathon. Haven't watched too much so this is partial, but all of these runs are must watch imo (except Quantum Conundrum, it's just because I love that game so much. Another game that needs to be more famous. Great speed game and the best commentary in the whole marathon imo. Unfortunately had to use cheat codes because of RNG on Wither Skull farming, but it was still a very entertaining run.Įarthbound. Sick effort into finding the seed, routing everything, and memorizing the route. 0 star race was amazing, Chris got an outstanding time for a marathon and so did Puncay after in the 120 star. A game I love, commentary was good, the run wasn't bad, and it's a great speed game that needs to be known more. Also knowing the run it was pretty fun when he trolled the audience saying "we'll need this for x thing" when that thing gets skipped, and instead he gets items that only serve glitching purposes. Both 151 and Blindfolded were amazing, Shenanagans has put so much time into this game and it's mind blowing to see him do all the tricks so easily.
